Legal Department

From copyright to sport and news, from broadcast regulation to co-productions, from telecommunications to public service issues, from labour law to competition rules: wherever broadcasters are confronted with legal questions or regulatory challenges, the Legal Department provides advice and assistance, prepares the ground for adopting common positions and - in close cooperation with the EBU Brussels Office - promotes and represents/defends the EBU's and its Members' interests vis-à-vis the relevant international organizations and in professional fora.

This is carried out through close coordination with EBU Members, which is ensured, in particular, by the Legal and Public Affairs Assembly, for which the Department provides the secretariat, and by a number of specialized, mostly interdisciplinary, groups.

Internally, the Department ensures the overall legal security of the EBU's actions, provides legal advice to the Director General and the other Departments and plays an active role in the drafting and negotiation of co-production and other contracts.
