Euroclassic Notturno can provide your organisation with the means of achieving or enhancing yourown 24-hour channel of classical music in the face of growing international competition. The musicchoice concentrates on an attractive, well-balanced repertory of music from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods, played by the leading orchestras and musicians from throughout the world, including a large proportion of material recorded at live events. This music is provided by EBU active and associate members, many of whom have researched their archives specially for Euroclassic Notturno.

As it does not rely on CD productions, it meets the ideal of public radio to provide a distinctive service of high artistic and cultural quality, beyond the programming offered by commercial radio. As a shared service between EBU members, the costs are extremely modest, and this allows individual stations to invest more in daytime broadcasting. Euroclassic Notturno does not sound imported, since your local tone of voice is retained by adding your own announcements in your local language.

How does it work?

Each night between 0005 and 0700 a carefully planned sequence of music and silences is broadcast over the EBU satellite system in real time. This is accessed by your organisation and rebroadcast on your usual frequencies. Individual participating countries add their own announcements at predetermined times according to the detailed programme plans which are sent out some weeks in advance from London. Euroclassic Notturno can be run very economically in a completely automated manner through hard-disc playout systems linked to timecode. Technically, the service has proved extremely reliable since its launch in January 1998.
